About Hair Treatments Treatment

Hair fall is normal up to a point — shedding fifty to a hundred hairs a day is expected. What brings people to a dermatologist is a change: more hair in the drain than usual, a widening parting, a receding hairline, or visible scalp where there was not one before.

The cause matters enormously, because the treatments differ completely. Androgenetic alopecia, or pattern hair loss, is progressive and genetic and requires long-term management. Telogen effluvium, the diffuse shedding that follows illness, childbirth, crash dieting or significant stress, is usually self-limiting and recovers once the trigger resolves. Alopecia areata is autoimmune. Traction alopecia comes from how hair is worn. Treating one as though it were another wastes months during which follicles may be miniaturising.

PRP and GFC are given as a series, monthly to begin with, so hair fall treatment is a commitment measured in months rather than a single visit. Being local to Gaur City and Greater Noida West makes that schedule realistic. Water quality is also worth raising at the consultation — it is one of the most common questions patients from the newer Noida Extension societies ask, and it is better answered in the context of your own diagnosis than from general advice online.

Our Approach

Assessment begins with determining the pattern and likely cause, which may include examining the scalp under magnification and, where indicated, blood work to check for iron deficiency, thyroid dysfunction or vitamin D deficiency — all common contributors in Indian patients and all correctable.

Treatment depends on the diagnosis. Pattern hair loss is typically managed with a combination of medical therapy and in-clinic procedures such as PRP or GFC, which use growth factors derived from your own blood to support existing follicles. Hair transplantation is considered where follicles are genuinely lost rather than miniaturised; we assess candidacy, refer to a surgical centre chosen case by case, and continue your care before and after.

What to Expect

  1. 1 Diagnosis Pattern, duration and distribution are assessed, along with family history, recent illness, medication and diet. Blood investigations are advised where a correctable deficiency is suspected.
  2. 2 Correcting contributors Iron, thyroid or vitamin D abnormalities are addressed first. Procedures work considerably better when the underlying deficiency is not still active.
  3. 3 Treatment phase PRP or GFC sessions are usually monthly for four to six sessions, alongside any prescribed medical therapy.
  4. 4 Maintenance and review Progress is reviewed against baseline photographs at three and six months. Pattern hair loss requires ongoing maintenance — stopping treatment entirely means gradual return to the original trajectory.

Frequently Asked Questions

How soon will I see results from PRP or GFC?

Reduced shedding is usually the first change, often within six to eight weeks. Visible density improvement takes longer — typically three to four months, assessed against baseline photographs rather than impression. Anyone offering visible regrowth in a month is not describing how hair cycles work.

What is the difference between PRP and GFC?

Both use growth factors derived from your own blood. PRP uses concentrated platelets; GFC is a further-processed preparation that isolates the growth factors themselves, giving a more concentrated and standardised product. GFC generally costs more per session. Which suits you depends on your pattern and stage, and is discussed at consultation.

Will my hair fall return if I stop treatment?

For pattern hair loss, yes — it is a progressive genetic condition, and treatment slows and partially reverses it rather than curing it. Telogen effluvium is different and usually resolves permanently once the trigger is addressed. This distinction is one of the more important things to establish at diagnosis.

Am I a candidate for a hair transplant?

Transplantation suits people with established pattern hair loss, a stable rate of loss, and adequate donor density at the back of the scalp. It is not appropriate during active diffuse shedding, or for early thinning where medical management would achieve more. An honest clinic will sometimes tell you that you are not ready yet.

Does hard water cause hair fall?

Hard water can make hair feel rough and appear duller, and may worsen scalp irritation, but it is not a cause of true hair loss. If you are losing density, look for a medical cause rather than blaming the water supply.

Hair Transplant

Lavanayam does not perform hair transplant surgery in-house. What we do is the part that decides whether a transplant will work: an honest assessment of your hair loss, medical treatment to stabilise it, referral to a suitable surgical centre — chosen case by case — when you are a genuine candidate, and the follow-up care that protects the result afterwards.

Assessment: 1–2 visits; surgery at a referred centre 30–45 minutes for the assessment Downtime: None for the assessment

Hair Fall Treatment

Losing 50–100 hairs a day is normal. A widening parting, a receding hairline, or handfuls in the drain is not — and the right treatment depends entirely on why it is happening. At Lavanayam a dermatologist diagnoses the type of hair loss first, then builds a plan from medical treatment, PRP or GFC and, where follicles are truly gone, transplant.

Medical plan reviewed at 3 months; PRP/GFC 3–4 monthly 30–45 minutes per clinic visit Downtime: None; mild scalp tenderness after PRP/GFC

PRP Hair Treatment

Platelet-rich plasma uses the growth factors in your own blood to support thinning hair follicles. It is one of the most widely used in-clinic treatments for early pattern hair loss — when it is given as a proper series, to the right patient, alongside medical treatment. At Lavanayam it is planned and performed under an MD dermatologist.

3–4 sessions, 4 weeks apart; maintenance 4–6 monthly 45–60 minutes including preparation Downtime: None; mild scalp tenderness for a day

GFC Hair Treatment

Growth Factor Concentrate is a newer development of PRP: your own blood, processed so that the growth factors are released from the platelets and concentrated into a small, cell-free preparation. It is given as a shorter series and tends to be more comfortable. At Lavanayam it is planned and performed under an MD dermatologist as part of a full hair fall plan.

3 sessions, 4 weeks apart; maintenance 6-monthly 60 minutes including preparation Downtime: None; mild tenderness for a few hours
