Typical ranges. Session numbers, timelines and results vary with severity, the treatment chosen and individual response — your plan is confirmed at consultation.
Microneedling radiofrequency (MNRF) uses a handpiece with an array of very fine needles that penetrate the skin to a set depth — typically 0.5 to 3.5 mm — and release a controlled pulse of radiofrequency energy from their tips. The energy heats the dermis, the skin's supporting layer, and triggers a healing response that lays down new collagen and elastin over the following weeks and months.
Because the needles are insulated along their length, the heat is delivered only where it is needed, deep in the skin, and the epidermis on the surface is spared. That is the key difference from ablative lasers, which work by removing the surface: MNRF causes far less post-treatment redness, peels minimally, and — most importantly on Indian skin — carries a much lower risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation.
MNRF is used mainly for acne scars (rolling and mixed scarring especially), enlarged pores and uneven texture, and for mild skin tightening on the face and neck. It is a course rather than a one-off, because collagen builds gradually, and it is often combined with subcision for tethered scars, TCA CROSS for ice-pick scars, or fractional CO₂ for defined boxcar scars.
Adults with acne scarring, enlarged pores, uneven texture or mild laxity whose active acne is controlled. It is particularly suited to Indian skin (Fitzpatrick IV–V), where ablative resurfacing carries a real pigmentation risk. It is not for anyone with active inflamed acne or infection in the area, and it will not lift significant sagging or remove deep ice-pick scars on its own — the dermatologist maps your scars and tells you what MNRF can and cannot do for them before you commit to a course.
Most acne-scar courses are 3–5 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart. Pores and texture often improve within two sessions; scar depth changes more slowly because it depends on new collagen, which keeps forming for 3–6 months after the last session. The final result is judged then, not straight after treatment.
For mild laxity, 2–3 sessions with a maintenance session every 6–12 months is typical. Your dermatologist will give you a range for your scars rather than a fixed promise.
An MD dermatologist decides which scars MNRF suits and which need subcision, TCA CROSS or CO₂ — then combines them.
MNRF is our first-line resurfacing precisely because it spares the surface; depth and energy are set for Fitzpatrick IV–V.
Deeper on scarred cheeks, shallower around the eyes — not one setting for the whole face.
We tell you collagen takes months and photograph every stage so both of us can see the change.
